Crystal Vue™
Once Again Features on the Cover of
‘Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology’

The Crystal Vue™ image showing fetal lip and palate selected as the Picture of the Month

Samsung’s novel imaging technology 'Crystal Vue™' is once again featured on the front cover of Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology (UOG), one of the renowned industry journals in women's health, and the official journal by the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG).

The front cover of the journal highlights the latest technology that may solve the unmet needs of diagnostic ultrasound imaging in the field of women’s health. For the second time, Crystal Vue™ featured on the front cover, following the 2016 March edition where the Crystal Vue™ image of fetal rib & vertebral was selected as the front cover.

The April edition of the UOG featured the image and article by A. Dall'Asta, G, MD, Paramasivam, MD, C. C. Lees, MD at Centre for Fetal Care, Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London, UK. Using Samsung's premium diagnostic ultrasound system WS80A with Elite, the professors introduced the image of reconstructed axial view using Crystal Vue™ with Realistic Vue ™ in normal fetus at 32 weeks which clearly shows alveolar ridge, tongue, interpalatal suture and secondary palate.

The professors stated in the paper, “Clear visualization of the posterior or secondary plate is not possible with conventional 2D sonography. And several 3D ultrasound technique have been described but there's no consensus as to which has clinical superiority. Qualitative comparison of the imaging techniques in normal fetuses showed excellent visualization of secondary palate, particularly the soft plate, with Crystal Vue™.", adding, “We believe that Crystal Vue™ represents an advance in antenatal imaging of the fetal secondary hard and soft palates."

Clinical Research Group of Samsung Medison commented, “When Crystal Vue™ featured on the cover last year, it suggested its potential to become a new paradigm of 3D rendering technology. By selected as a front cover once again, Crystal Vue™ proved its clinical value that may overcome the limitations of conventional 2D and 3D ultrasound.

Why is the proper assessment of fetal lip and palate important?

Orofacial clefts represent of the most common fetal abnormalities, with an incidence of 1 in 500-1000 live births.
Following a diagnosis of OFC, providing accurate antenatal counseling and assessment of the postnatal implications
and management of the findings are of primary importance for the parents.
